Cerritos Beach & Todos Santos, Mexico

Playa Los Cerritos, ~45 minutes north of Cabo San Lucus, was the end of the road for us this winter. From here, we will be turning around and driving north for a very long time, all the way to Alaska, if all goes as planned!

We loved our 2-week stay at Cerritos Beach. Our full-time RV life is not a constant vacation, but rather everyday life, and work, with an ever-changing backyard to explore. However, our evenings and weekends here felt like a vacation. We also really liked Cerritos Boutique RV Park, where we were a 5-minute walk from the beach. We could see a sliver and hear the constant roar of the Pacific from inside our trailer.

Cerritos Beach is probably the best beach in this area to play in the ocean. It’s a beginner surfing spot and you can sign up for lessons with one of the vendors on the beach. The sand is sort of orange with black swirls.

We thought the best thing was the whale watching from the beach. We saw tons of spouts but also one day two whales were breaching which we’d never seen before.

The town is a little rustic with no paved roads and all water is trucked in. But it seems to be able to suck you in and make you never want to leave. Almost every gringo we met wanted to buy property here and there are a lot of new condos and hotels being built.

We made friends with our neighbors, most were digital nomads like Michael and we spent a few beach days and dinners with them. There was always something to celebrate…like Taco Tuesday and National Margarita Day. Pictured below are Olas de Cerritos, Barracuda Cantina, and Don Nachos, where Michael won a free margarita at Bingo.

The more established town of Todos Santos, a Pueblo Mágico, is 10 miles north of Cerritos. It had a rich century of sugar cane production and is now an artist haven and tourist hotspot.

There are several blocks of pricy restaurants, boutique hotels, and shops.

And there’s a nearby baby sea turtle release! We watched several dozen olive ridley turtles waddle out to the water on a Friday night.

On our last weekend day, we completed our Todos Santos bucket list by hiking the Old Sugar Port trail.

And visiting Playa Las Palmas where there is a short walk through a palm grove to a beach with wild horses. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any horses, just a lot of horse poop.

Cerritos Beach was another spot in Mexico that we weren’t quite ready to leave but it was time to retrace our route back up the peninsula and make a special stop for grey whales!
