Friends & Apizza in Connecticut

As we’ve been simply RV traveling every state, our friend Diana has been running a marathon in every state! Connecticut is #48 for her and we planned our visit to see her and Mark.

We spent our first week in CT at Hammonasset Beach State Park campground. Pets are not allowed in CT State Park campgrounds so we tried to keep our contraband away from the windows.

After our short travel day, we spent the afternoon in the touristy town of Mystic.

I picked up our new truck and spent the week driving 1000 non-towing miles to break it in. One day I drove all the way to Vermont and was reminded how much I like it there. Another day, I was so grateful for a long phone call with my brother.

The following Saturday we tried New Haven’s unique style of pizza. It’s called apizza, has a thin crust, and is cooked in a coal-fired oven. There was a 2-hour line on the sidewalk at Sally’s so we ordered to go and wandered around Yale while waiting.

Minus the burnt parts, the apizza was delicious. Or maybe we were just starving.

The next day we moved to Skyridge Trails RV Park in the Litchfield Hills area to be closer to the Hartford marathon. We were hoping to see some pretty Fall colors, but that was a bust.

Another short travel day gave us time to walk around the town of Litchfield and have an apple cider topped with a cider donut at Hogan’s Cider Mill. It was good but we later regretted ordering two.

The following weekend Mark and Diana arrived. We tried Frank Pepe’s apizza, cheered them on at the race, and followed up with a brewery tour.

Next is a visit to NYC!
