Skidaway Island State Park & Savannah, GA

Is there a sweeter place than Savannah in the Spring? I doubt it, but let us know so we can check that out too!

We spent the last week of March at Skidaway Island State Park, 15 minutes outside Savannah. Although the road to our campsite was narrow and curvy, this campground is pure perfection.

We loved the trails at Skidaway.

We had a marathon weekend day exploring and eating our way through Savannah. We started with a morning coffee walk through the Bonaventure Cemetary where the azaleas were popping!

Then we moved over to Forsyth Park to walk around the historic district.

Savannah is laid out in a grid pattern. 22 park squares make the city landscape so distinctly beautiful.

The Cathedral of St John the Baptist is one of the most elaborate churches we’ve visited in the US. We spent almost an hour looking at the stained glass and the large wood stations crafted in Germany.

The river district is also a must-visit area.

Last but not least, we had a lot of good food. We had seafood chowder and Savannah red rice at the Crystal Beer Parlor, fried chicken and pancake “tacos” at Treylor Park (we couldn’t pass up an Airstream-themed restaurant that also has locations named Hitch and Doublewide!), and a sandwich from Zunzi’s (not pictured). We also sampled pralines at various candy stores throughout the city and had ice cream worth waiting in line for at Leopold’s.

We loved Skidaway Island SP and Savannah and like so many places we visit, it’s going on the return to list.

Hi you two. Great blog. Lots of talk about Charleston but I’ll take Savannah any day. Stay safe. Frank Garriga.

Thank you! Yes, we’ve visited Charleston several times (without the camper) and we say the same! Both are great but Savannah > Charleston 🙂
